๐ 70% of Healthcare Providers Actively Considering Use of Generative AI
Press Release
AKASA, a leader in AI-driven automation for the revenue cycle, revealed survey results indicating over 70% of healthcare organizations are actively considering the adoption of generative AI. The survey involved 250 CFOs and financial leaders in American health systems, showing that 58% are actively considering the use of generative AI in their revenue cycle operations. Also, 23% of them considered using this technique in clinical documentation.
Varun Ganapathi, the CTO of AKASA, highlighted how advancements in large language models empower generative AI to structure unstructured clinical text. They can also facilitate the extraction of meaningful data from complex documents. Malinka Walaliyadde, the CEO of AKASA, added that revenue cycle is a strategic and safe area for implementing generative AI because the complex and dynamic processes of it can increase revenue yield without posing direct risk to patient health.

๐ Cardiology now has more than 100 FDA cleared AI algorithms: Itโs just a beginning
News
โIf you had said to me 15 years ago we were going to have some sort of AI computational fluid dynamics tool in the U.S. chest pain guidelines, you would have been laughed at. Everyone would have said you were crazy. But that is the reality now.โ
Cardiology ranks second in FDA-cleared clinical artificial intelligence (AI) algorithms, with 71 in the cardiology category and 31 in cardiology-specific imaging under radiology. Cardiology constitutes 10% of the 692 market-cleared clinical AI algorithms. This means that they meet certain criteria and are ready to be pushed into clinical implementaion.
"The first thing I will tell you is that in the near future, echo labs that do not have AI will fall way behind. AI is something that will live inside an echo machineโฆ And I think it will change echo dramatically.โ Said Roberto Lang, the director of cardiovascular imaging at the University of Chicago. AI is transforming cardiology, automating measurements, enhancing reproducibility, and offloading tasks for technologists and doctors.
This is not new to me, and it does not only happen in cardiology as mentioned also in the article. But the questions are here: How should we select and filter those products? What kind of regulations should be there to facilitate the adoption of these models?

๐ค Will AI substitute doctors in healthcare industry?
Opinion
Following the thoughts from reading the previous news, whether AI is going to replace clinicians is an unavoidable question.
The article delves into the evolving role of AI in healthcare, emphasizing the enduring significance of healthcare workers' intuitions in clinical care. As a promising tool, the article highlighted the AI applications in healthcare, including rule-based expert systems, robotic process automation and so on. These techniques can help with tasks such as automated patient monitoring, moving and stocking medical supplies, and assisting surgeons.
While acknowledging the advancements and applications of AI in healthcare, the article underscores the importance of preserving the role of doctors and healthcare professionals in decision-making. We need to take into account the irreplaceable nature of healthcare professionals' "gut feel" and the complexity of clinical reasoning, which are characteristics that AI might not be able to have. The article envisions a future where AI supports clinical decision-making, with healthcare providers leading and AI serving as a tool for augmentation rather than replacement.
